The tree is growing . . .
I will start writing using my first word - community. I chuckle to think how this journey has carried over to my classroom. One semester and I can already see change. My class is my community. I love the idea of creating my own learning that leads right back to my students. My purpose is to have my students want to create their own learning - a quest for knowledge. This journey has helped me look at things with a new perspective. I realize my students have their own perspectives and I now acknowledge and respect those perspectives.
Unconventional - look at things in a different way - a new perspective. You think you know something, but look at it with a different lens - dare to strike out and find new ground.
What is the connection between diversity and research? Diversity is my research. The old teaching style (in my opinion) is narrow minded and prejudiced. Constructivism sees no lines. It incorporates all. If someone represents truth, it is their truth, their perspective - I may see it differently. How do I interpret the word truth?
Assuming puts limits on students as well as teachers. What do you need from me? As the students how I can help/ My assumption may be an on-going problem. I need to ask how I can help. Let the student tell me. Let the entire family know that I care - find out what abilities they have.
