My Wall
I have thought a lot about how a wanted my room to look. I have always taken pride in providing a safe, welcoming room for my students. Through my SSC9 journey, I wanted these same feeling to carry over into my room. I have made a wall of our journey - I have used quotes and scrapbook materials to create a warm, welcoming feel. I have had teachers and students alike say how nice it feels when they enter.
Spanish teacher, "I like to come in your room to relax. It is like a breath of fresh air. I feel I can let my mind wander - with the books, quotes, and the atmosphere.
Senior student - "Mrs. Heiden, that quote on the wall that says Say What, Say Why, Say Other Things to Try, makes me think about what I am learning. Why did you put that up?"

I believe this word says it all. I have been on a journey with my students and we each have learned to question and tinker. It makes for great learning. At the beginning of my journey, I wanted to incorporate different pieces of learning in my classes. In many cases my students and I walked side by side through this journey. One if the first pieces were creating websites. My students created websites at the same time I created this web portfolio. It took a lot of tinkering to learn how to maneuver our way to completion. As you probably are aware - this site is my version. Below you will find student examples.
Incorporating technology in the classroom
Students working together to problem solve while attempting to create a website during the reading of a novel. Students were able to choose their layout and what information they wanted on their site. As the semester continued students researched careers and completed a career paper which was also added to their site.
Reading, listening, and writing
10 Grade English Students listened to the audio version of The Book Thief. Students were able to concentrate on the plot, as well as the significant narrator and his unique rhetoric. Students also created websites to demonstrate their learning.
