December 2011 Goals
Accomplishments this Month
Creating student centered lessons and/or classroom
This month have I have focused on two classes. I explained to the students that our learning is fluid. It is never-ending. My students are creating and adding to their web sites. We discussed how this particular lesson was like a plant or flower - growing, adding water and a little sun - it changes on a daily basis.
Growing as a quiet reflector and as a role model for my students and fellow educators
This is a continual effort. I see myself letting go (power) as the days pass. As I reflect on this new role, I feel myself releasing anxiety and the power or the role I felt I was suppose to play during class and I feel my students are picking up on that which leads to them being more relaxed and engaging rather than misbehaviors.
Becoming a better listener
I am removing one of my goals. I feel becoming a better listener goes hand in hand with being a quiet reflector. In or to do one you need to do the other.
Spending more time with family and myself
This is being achieved with baby steps during the new year. I have slowly given up extra curricular activities at school. This was not as hard as I thought it would be. Actually it is a sense of freedom. I have my last speech contest coming up and no longer have to feel obligated to be at every sporting event, music concert, or whatever our school may have. Its okay not to go to everything. It’s nice.
